Why Satan Rages

On a recent broadcast a talk radio personality made an excellent comment. Speaking of the old Iraq regime he said, "Crumbling regimes are the most dangerous."

And once again we find a fantastic parallel into the spiritual world. Christ is conquering and Satan's regime is crumbling. He is a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. While he is not one we quiver before, he is one we respect because, due to his imminent downfall, he rages with anger.

The Rivalry

Where ever the Lord erects a house of prayer,
The Devil builds a chapel there.

Satan Likes the Status Quo

After that last post I was reminded of what we studied in our CS Lewis study last night. The under-demon, Wormwood, exults in the fact that WWII has started. But Screwtape tells him not to put too much hope in a war, for
"If we are not careful, we shall see thousands turning in this tribulation to the Enemy (that is God)...How disastrous for us is the continual remembrance of death. One of our best weapons, contented worldliness, is rendered useless."

All this is to say, the trauma at VT is not in vain. Though the VT administration has failed miserably to offer hope, I am quite sure that pastors and Christian counselors are doing a good deal of ministry. Death is on people's minds and people will need answers.

It also reminds me of what one of my professors said in seminary,
"I'd rather officiate a funeral than a wedding. People at a wedding are only concerned with what the bride's mates are wearing. People at a funeral are ready and willing to listen to the gospel."

Satan's Devices

Speaking about Afganistan terrorists Vice President Cheney had the following to say,
"They know they cannot win outright. Their strategy is to break the will of the American people. Their hope is that we will get tired and pull out; then they win."

Sounds a lot like the strategy of Satan. He cannot win outright, but he will dog us with a hound's persistance, with the hopes that we will get tired and forfiet.

"...lest we be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs."
2 Cor. 2:11
