Bonar on Reading

I highly recommend reading Horacio Bonar's book Follow the Lamb, especially if you are a new Christian. He designed this book for new converts, but it is quite helpful for those of us who would consider ourselves "mature." It is so good that may even incorporate selected readings from it into our worship service in the future.

But here are a few snippets that are worth while for the time being,

"All reading is well and good, and will help you understand the Bible."

"All truth is good, but not all is Divine (that is, inspired)."

These quotes provide a great balance. On the one hand, you are encouraged to read a variety of things (novels, magazines, textbooks, etc.). But on the other hand, you should remember the most important reading you do is in the Word of God. Never should the former supplant the latter.
