Big Mac v. The Decalogue

A recent poll has revealed that Americans were more familiar with the contents of a Big Mac than they were the contents of the 10 Commandments. Even those who attend a place of worship once a week had a rough time placing the law's precepts.

What was even more sad about the article though was the comments that were attached to it. The comments complained that advertising had burned the ingredients into our heads when we were younger. And who couldn't disagree with that. I'm sure all of us can recall, "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame bun."

But the TV isn't to be blamed. What is sad is that the commandments are not advertised in the church! Most Christians do not even know the commandments because most churches in America today do not include the law in their services.

So the complaint should not be railed against the culture or against clever marketing strategies. The blame rests mainly on parents and church leaders who have neglected the duty of leading the people of God in worship and teaching them the content of the Ten Words.
