Church Growth

It is always great as a pastor to hear how the flock in your care is growing in grace. I am finding that the regular means of grace has been quite effective for the building up of the people of God. The sheep of this fold regularly make comments on what the Spirit is teaching them and how their lives are being improved. What's more is I see an evident reverence, love and unity growing in all of them.

But I've witnessed great things lately. Various members have a new vigor for the word of God. Some have found great delight in the catechism and have been refreshed by learning new doctrines. Our church is coming to the point where we can begin the process of selecting elders and pretty much everyone is involved in discipliship of some kind or other.

One of the most impressive items is how well our children behave in our services. They do not just "sit" through them, but are ever engaged in them. Even my 1 year old, who cannot say more than 4-5 syllables, gives her lively "A-men"--or baby equivalent-- at the appropriate times. My favorite part of the service is the monthly psalm. Our children have been learning them quite well. I particularly enjoy this not just because the young ones are learning Scripture, but because they are able to participate in a more active way during the singing. Of course, this means I'll be doling out some pizza soon!

We've been blessed with numerical growth too lately. But I am more satisfied with our spiritual growth. I know that as Zion is built up, she will inevitably grow in size. I also know that if a visitor gives us a few months, their lives will change drastically.
