Sobering Song

Here's a little chorus that I came across in my morning Psalter singing.

If one does not repent, God whets His sword;
He has His bow already strung and bent.
He has prepared His instruments of death;
He makes His arrows fiery, deadly shafts.

(Psalm 7:12-13, to the tune "I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer Art")

I'm sure that you won't find some thing like this being sung 7 or 8 times over in your average evangelical church. Wouldn't it be a shock if it came up on one of their screens though! With today's wishy-washy, feel good music I doubt any pastor would dare try. But what a wake up call it would be.

In any respect it certainly serves as a reminder that the way of God is not sappy or full of sentimentalism. We are also reminded that one of Christ's first words (if not the first) was "repent."
