2 Timothy 2:9 "But God's Word is not bound."
It sounds like a lion roaming in the jungle. It is free. It is on the loose. It's alive. It is ready to pounce. The Word of God is not bound. The messenger may be fettered hand and foot, but the message cannot be tethered. The words spring from the lips after having been launched from the heart. They sprout wings and they fly wherever the Spirit takes them.
It is interesting how the word of God springs upon people, even those least expecting it. Ian Murry's biography of Martyn Lloyd-Jones gives a good example: One day some of Lloyd-Jones' congregation members were talking about the message they heard him preach the Sunday before in a local pub. An easedropper overheard their conversation and soonafter was converted himself. The Word of God may have been heard second hand, but it was still the unbound word.
Charles Spurgeon was once asked why he didn't defend the inerrancy and inspiration of Scripture. He responded, "I don't defend a lion. I just let him out of the cage."
If only more churches would let the lion out of the cage. If only more churches would publicly read God's Word in their worship services. Those churches say, "We don't want to make people feel uncomfortable." That's translated, "We don't want them to be convicted and/or converted."
Oddly enough, it is the liberal churches, where high litergy still is held to, that the Word of God is still read publicly. Would that God unleash the lion there.
I'm going to be collecting storys of the Unbound word, I'll have more to come as I get them.
