For four years the Ashland Care Center has sought to add limited obstetrical ultrasound to its list of pregnancy care and consultation services. Early in July the dream materialized as they opened the new medical facility by performing two ultrasounds.
Since then the Care Center has been able to perform several other ultrasounds for a total of 12 to date. Many of which have helped to persuade abortion vulnerable mothers that their babies are living persons who deserve the chance to live.
Executive Director Ducia Hamm commented, “What we have seen at the Center is a change in client attitude. Those that were fearful/uncertain leave with excitement at seeing their child kick and move.”
ACC board member Mark Hamilton noted that the pursuit of medical facilities began with the simple desire to fulfill the Center’s mission of preserving the lives of the unborn. “We knew we had to find some ways to reach the abortion-minded, abortion-vulnerable clients in Ashland. Through our contact with other [pregnancy centers] we knew that many were becoming clinical to reach out to these women.”
Hamilton then attributed the realization of the goal to divine providence. He said that the initial steps were not smooth as expenses were “staggering” and their facilities were limited. “But we moved ahead. As we were doing so, unbelievably and miraculously things began to fall into place.”
The Care Center cites the financial generosity of Ashland area residents and churches as only one of the many contributors God used in achieving their goal. Some of these donations enabled the Center to move to a more suitable space on Sloan Avenue.
ACC also credits Dr. Debbie Cowden and Anne Zimage who serve as the Care Center’s Medical team. “ACC could not be more blessed to have both these women serve as their medical team,” said Hamm.
Dr. Cowden is a board certified physician who volunteers her time apart from her own practice to serve as the Medical Director.
Zimage, who volunteers her time to perform the ultrasounds, also works at Samaritan hospital as a registered ultrasound technician. “Anne has a true passion for the life of the pre-born. She brings to ACC her years of expertise in performing ultrasounds along with her calming gentleness,” said Hamm.
The Center also stands in-debt to Dr. Dale Thomae for donating the ultrasound machine from his office.
Many pregnancy centers across America have been making the transition to medical facilities. The upgrade is due to recent studies which reveal that abortion minded mothers who see ultrasound pictures of their pre-born child just weeks old are more likely to carry the child to term.
ACC has scheduled an open house and dedication service Sunday, September 7 for the public to attend. The open house will run from 2:30-400 p.m. with the dedication service starting at 3 p.m.
