Sell a Beer on Sunday?

Mr. Germann is right. Why should beer sales be prohibited on Sunday's? Why should one of God's good creations be prohibited to be bought if you can buy every other product on Sunday? I mean, if you are going to break the fourth commandment in one area, why not all areas?

I will gladly stand with Mr. Germann and fight for the rights of the free market. I will even fight for our right to drink alcohol, as it is one of God's gifts to man. But Mr. German is on the wrong side of the issue. He ought to be fighting against the further profaning of the Lord's day, rather than for it.

The fourth commandment is pretty clear in when it commands that no unnecessary work should be done on the Sunday (sometimes known as the Christian Sabbath). In the command God sets aside one day for people to pay homage to him. On it he calls men to cease from their normal labors and recreations to reflect on his goodness, mercy and love. In this one day we refrain from our buying and selling, or our fishing and boating, in order to remember that he is the one who sustains our lives and gives us time for leisure.

But what about our tourism? What about all the great taxes or jobs that we will lose if we don't promote commerce and recreation on Sunday? That's the point of the command. When you obey God he does not rob you of riches and life. He grants it to you in greater measure. If you want a healthier, happier Ohio, obedience is the way to go.
