True Change: An Atheist Testifies to the Gospel's Redeeming Work

I wonder if it is a coincidence that this article came out after the election and all the hub-bub about "change." (I'm actually surprise to see it appear at all, let alone in the Times.) But here is a testimony from a self proclaimed atheist to the change that Christianity and the true preaching of the gospel brings.

The headline is quite striking: As an atheist, I truly believe Africa needs God.

The author highlights how transformed individuals in Africa have transformed culture through diligent, individual work and morality. More interesting though is that he equates the tribal paganism and its suppression with that of the secular humanism of our culture and that both fail to bring about the change for the better that Christianity naturally births.

This quote sums it up:
I've become convinced of the enormous contribution that Christian evangelism makes in Africa: sharply distinct from the work of secular NGOs, government projects and international aid efforts. These alone will not do. Education and training alone will not do. In Africa Christianity changes people's hearts. It brings a spiritual transformation. The rebirth is real. The change is good.
