So Vile A Heart

Sung to the tune "God Moves in a Mysterious Way"

So vile a heart do I possess
Its evil never ends.
It flows in floods as black as night,
And to the foul it tends.

A worthless man, a wretch am I!
What cure is there for me?
I cannot find within myself
A moral remedy!

Lo, here am I poor destitute
A man condemned to die.
Justice demands my life, my blood,
And everlasting sighs.

I look to God my single source
Of pardon and of grace.
He only can atone for sin,
And blot out its disgrace.

With confidence I do confess;
This is my sole refrain:
"T'is Christ alone, the Son of God!
His death removes the stain."

T'was he, t'was he that gave his life
To rectify my guilt.
He took the nails, he took the curse!
For me his blood was spilt.
