Creative Writing Course Offered for Homeschoolers

As mentioned before, I'm offering a few classes for Jr. & Sr. High homeschool kids.  Below is something of an introduction to the creative writing class (click here to view the Public Speaking / Speech class outline).  I still need a few more students to make a go of it.  So if you would like to have your child(ren) participate, please contact me as soon as possible at timmons.m1@gmail.com or 419-289-2552.

I have not yet nailed down a cost for the classes, but I'm thinking between 50-75 dollars per class--with an attempt to accomodate multiple siblings, of course.

Creative Writing
Course Objectives:
1.  To familiarize students with dynamics of prose and poetry.
2.  To stimulate the student's 'creative juices' and imagination and focus it into writing.
3.  To hone student's skill of composing and editing.

Course Content
1.  Story Scrabble:  This is a fun project where students are given the first line of a story.  Each student then begins to unfold that story on their own.  After a set time limit, students must pass their papers to the next student to continue the story.  Things are always interesting!

2.  Perception and Description:  Students will be required to "notice something new"--that is, something they have never been cognizant of it before.  Then they must write a poem about it.

3.  Poetry & Hymnody:  Students will learn some of the dynamics of poetry (meter, rhyme, aliteration, etc) and be required to implement these in several poems.  We will also see how the church's hymnody also utilizes these elements.  Students will attempt then to integrate biblical truth to create a modern hymn.

4.  Short Story:  We will examine some of the elements of a short story (foreshaddowing, symbolism, description, backflash, etc.) as well as plot and storyline.  Students will then create their own short story, edit it, submit it to a peer to review and edit, and complete a final draft.
